Dear Fellow Students,

Updates to Students from the College Management

The year 2023 is drawing to a close. We hope you have enjoyed the study and campus life for the past few months.

Graduation Ceremony

In the afternoon of 11 November 2023, around 300 attendees gathered at St Andrew's Church to celebrate the Graduation Ceremony of the College to confer bachelor's degrees, higher diplomas, professional diplomas, and diplomas upon the graduating class of 2023.

The College had the great honour of having Mr James Cheng, the Chief Founding Donor, as the distinguished Guest of Honour at the ceremony. After Mr Cheng's address, Mr Yuen Shu-wah, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the College, presided over the conferment. Dr Chui Hong-sheung, the President of the College, together with the members of the Board of Governors and the College Council, presented certificates to the graduates. The celebration of this momentous and splendid occasion was filled with the applause and cheers of the College staff, guests, relatives and friends of the graduates.

College Assemblies

Three College Assemblies were conducted in the 1st semester with the sharing sessions featuring the theme "To Forge Ahead, To Serve, To Create". It is a talk series planned for the College Assemblies of the academic year. The speakers included Dr H S Chui, the President of the College, at the 1st Assembly and alumni at the Assembly in November. Attendees also heard an inspirational talk from the guest speaker, Rev Dr Li Shing-lam Derek, at the latest Assembly in December. These speakers shared their perspectives and experiences about the determination to make progress and the efforts required to pursue one’s goals.

Teaching and Learning

The end of the 1st semester is approaching. You have probably been working hard on your assignments, group presentations, and project work. Although examinations for the semester are currently underway and exam preparation is your priority, you have to find time to meet the community service requirement as well. Volunteer for a cause and enjoy the experience of serving.

Scholarships

In recognition of GCC's commitment and efforts to provide quality education, more donors have supported the College to establish different scholarships to award deserving students. As more categories of scholarship awards are on offer, keep an eye on the application announcements of the Student Development Office. You do not want to miss the valuable opportunities to commend yourself on the efforts you have made.

Policy Address

In the Policy Address 2023 announced recently by the Chief Executive, support measures are planned to facilitate the growth and development of the self-financing tertiary institutions. Initiatives like the Land Grant Scheme and Matching Grant Scheme are particularly encouraging. Hopefully, they will be rolled out soon to support the College's future development.

Lastly, we wish you a warm, restful and blessed Christmas holiday. May the year ahead be a more pleasing and fruitful one for you.
