Dear Students, Graduates, and Members of our College Community,
We felt profound sorrow and grief over the recent fire disaster in Tai Po. As we all know, the graduation ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow to recognise the graduates' success in completing their studies at the College. After careful consideration, the College will proceed with the Graduation Ceremony as scheduled tomorrow with the following reasons:
- The graduation represents years of hard work, dedication, and resilience by every one of our graduates. Their achievements and their families' pride deserved recognition. The graduation ceremony requires extensive preparation beforehand. If the Ceremony is cancelled, it will be challenging to organise another ceremony in the near future to celebrate their achievements.
- The purpose of education is to nurture our graduates to build a better future. Graduates attending their Graduation Ceremony after a recent tragic social incident will be reminded of the need for our society and their role to serve with empathy and commitment to make our society a better place for everyone.
However, we would like to seek your attention for the following in relation to the Ceremony to be conducted tomorrow:
- There will be a "Moment of Silence" to honour the firefighter who sacrificed his life in the line of duty, as well as the residents who perished or were injured in the tragedy. This moment aims to strengthen our sense of unity and collective resilience, showing our support for one another and reaffirming the values that bind us together.
- The Guest of Honour, Ms CHAN Wing-shiu, May, JP, Permanent Secretary for Education, will attend the Ceremony as scheduled. However, at the request of the EDB, no release of the Ceremony, including all the photos, videos, written materials about the Guest of Honour, Ms CHAN Wing-shiu, May, JP, Permanent Secretary for Education or showing her presence and face in the event, is to be disseminated publicly. They are all forbidden to be posted or shared on social media, websites, or any public channels for any purpose. We sincerely appeal to you to refrain from uploading or sharing any such materials on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, threads, Rednote, or your website after the event.
Let us gather tomorrow to remember, support one another, and celebrate our graduates' achievements. Together, we will prepare them for future contributions to society through a meaningful and inspiring graduation ceremony.
With deepest condolences and unwavering hope,
H S Chui
President
