HKU-THU Education Symposium “Educational Traditions in the Age of AI: What and How?

Message from the HKU-THU Education Symposium

-------------------------------------------------------------------

You are cordially invited to the HKU-THU Education Symposium on the 7th of November, titled Educational Traditions in the Age of AI: What and How?

The rapid advancement of new technologies especially artificial intelligence (AI) is widely expected to have profound and long-lasting impact on human societies, including education. While the ultimate result is open to debate, it is safe to say they present challenges as well as opportunities. As educators we need to face both in a serious manner. At the same time, historical contexts and educational traditions continue to exert strong impact on the way we think and do education. Without a deep understanding of traditions, we are highly likely to fail to respond to new changes most appropriately. A fundamental question then arises: how to effectively combine the wisdom of the past with new and innovative technologies to address pressing contemporary and future challenges?

To explore this vital intersection, the inaugural HKU-THU Education Symposium, themed “Educational Traditions in the Age of AI: What and How?” will be held on November 7, 2025, at The University of Hong Kong. The event will convene educational experts from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Tsinghua University (THU) to examine how to reclaim and adapt traditions in the age of AI, explore how education can leverage both traditional resources and innovative technologies, and consider the future directions of educational development. The Symposium will be centered more specifically on the transformation of educational traditions focusing particularly on what to preserve and how to innovate.
