Dear Students,

I hope this message finds you well. Your commitment to learning is appreciated.

I want to discuss an important topic that has come up in our recent meetings of the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC). We have been examining cases of academic misconduct, including cheating during exams and issues related to assignments.

In our first meeting on 23 January 2025, we focused on suspected cheating and ghostwriting. Our second meeting, on 14 February 2025, addressed plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty. For confirmed cases, disciplinary actions can include grade reductions, course failures, or even a semester suspension. To date, there have been no appeals regarding these cases.

Maintaining academic integrity is crucial for your personal growth and our college community. The mission of the College is to nurture students based on the “CHRIST” values, where the “I” stands for integrity, which is at stake in these SDC meetings.

Cheating during exams, such as using unauthorized materials or copying from peers, undermines your education and devalues the efforts of others. Similarly, ghostwriting—having someone else complete your assignments—prevents you from engaging with the material and developing important learning skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving.

Plagiarism, or using someone else's work without proper citation, is a serious issue that applies to all academic work. Self-plagiarism—reusing your previous work without permission—is also unacceptable.

Engaging in academic misconduct can lead to severe consequences, including failing grades or a semester suspension. It can also affect your character and future opportunities, as integrity is highly valued by employers and academic institutions.

I encourage you to reflect on the importance of academic honesty in your studies. Take pride in your work, seek help when needed, and always give credit where it is due. The knowledge and skills you acquire here are invaluable assets for your future.

Thank you for your attention.

Best regards,

Prof Horace Ho
