[Certificate Training on Engaging Multicultural Community in Drug Prevention]
With the great success of the first round of the Certificate Training Course last year, the Community Drug Advisory Council is organizing the second round of the certificate training course on the uniqueness of drug prevention services for ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. By understanding their needs and cultural perception of services, we can learn from the practice wisdom of developing culturally sensitive drug prevention services.
Everyone should have equal access to drug prevention services regardless of ethnic background. However, owing to language barriers, cultural differences, and misunderstandings, ethnic minorities encounter barriers in receiving anti-drug information and services. At the same time, social workers and professionals serving ethnic minority communities lack cultural competency and understanding of existing services. It is challenging for them to make case referrals and engage service users with mainstream anti-drug services.
The training course aims to enhance current and future multidisciplinary professionals who have opportunities to reach out to multicultural groups, to improve their understanding and sensitivity to social determinants of health in the context of ethnic minorities' anti-drug needs. Participants will learn to detect and connect suspected hidden suspected ethnic minority drug abuse cases and encourage them to receive drug rehabilitation services.
