Dear All,

The research team of Sangfor has come to the conclusion that the degraded performance of our VDI system is neither the result of software configuration nor hardware fault. It was suggested that the degraded performance can be fixed by applying a patch and upgrade the entire VDI system.

Please be informed that a software upgrade of the Sangfor VDI system has been scheduled on this Saturday (27 March 2021) at 9:30pm. It will take about 10 hours to complete the upgrade. The VDI system will be suspended during the period of upgrade. All other systems, such as Moodle or Zoom, will not be affected. The Macintosh computers in Classrooms, Library and ITSO are available if you have some urgent work to be done. The IT team will monitor the progress of the upgrade. You will be notified as soon as the upgrade is completed. Please let us know if you have any questions.

For your information, the following have been done to the Sangfor VDI system:
  • Hardware Upgrade of the SSD cache disk
  • User profiles with split-brain (unsynchronised files) have been repaired.
  • Stress test of all the existing HD. No problem found.
  • Stress test of all storage networks. No problem found.
Thank you so much for your cooperation and patient.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Terry Ng
